Potamotrygon yepezi (Castex & Castello, 1970)
  • Common name: Maricaibo River Stingray
  • Range: Maracaibo Basin - Paraguay, Rio Tefé (Brazil), Rio Palmar (Venezuela)
  • Adult size: 35 - 40 cm

This species can be identified by the indistinct black splotches and streaks present on a light brown base color. Occasionally, lighter spots are present around the edges of the disc. The markings on the sides of the tail are also unevenly distributed and blotchy. Often confused with P. humerosa and P. dumerillii. Body shape closely resembles that of P. histrix.
